Every year I find myself wanting to do less and less for my birthday. Yesterday I went to work, and then to celebrate, I went to a pub with just a couple friends.

Mango cake! My favourite!
It was small, intimate, and perfect.
I do feel incredibly lucky, though, to work at a place where my employers show that they value their employees.
For each employee’s birthday they will buy them a bouquet of flowers.
For me they chose yellow, since I’m a summer baby, and red for my Chinese heritage. It was thoughtful, and generous, and such a nice touch.
I’m not sure why I did not feel the need for a great bit celebration – I certainly used to enjoy them. And I know I’m not the only one who now prefers smaller parties.
What about you? How do you enjoy celebrating your birthday? Have your celebrations changed over the years?
It’s Canada Day!!!

it doesn’t really matter to me, birthdays, it doesn’t mean anything, just added another year to all the years i’d already “owned”, and i just go out, and buy myself a cup of coffee and a piece of cake for myself, and each and every year, it seems, that i cared that much less about having a birthday, maybe it age, who knows…

The flowers are beautiful.
I might take myself out for lunch on my birthday.

Beautiful cake and flowers, it’s very nice of your employer to celebrate “you” in such a thoughtful way. I enjoy my birthday, but as I’ve gotten older, I realize that it’s quality over quantity that I desire. I would prefer a smaller group of people who I really enjoy spending time with over a large group of people that I might not have the same affection for. Happy belated birthday!

I’m a summer baby as well, and I used to throw these crazy slumber parties that lasted days (took full advantage of the summer break). Now that I’m older, though, I’ve finally joined the club of people that forget their birthday. Unless it happens to mark a big change in my life, I usually forget until someone tells me. I’m definitely of the mind of small=better, but I’m also an introvert 😉 Happy belated birthday, I hope it was a good one, no matter how small!

Happy bday! I always treat myself to something. My last one I took a trip to my home Island and enjoyed myself, or at least I forgot about my age for a few days 😀
